Sergio Ramirez is a Bronx-born guitarist and bandleader whose music blends jazz, classical training, and Latin traditions. He focuses on melody, groove, and interaction, creating performances that feel alive, conversational, and connected.
He has played on stages across the country, including Lincoln Center, SFJAZZ, Symphony Space, St. Ann’s Warehouse, and the Perelman Performing Arts Center. Sergio has performed with Grammy-winning artists and ensembles like the Villalobos Brothers and Arturo O’Farrill and the Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra, and was featured on O’Farrill’s album Mundoagua: Celebrating Carla Bley, a 2026 GRAMMY nominee for Best Latin Jazz Album.
Sergio holds a Bachelor of Music in Classical Guitar from the Manhattan School of Music and a Master of Music in Jazz Studies from Purchase College. This training informs his approach to music, allowing him to balance technical clarity with improvisational freedom while drawing rhythmic and melodic inspiration from his Mexican-American heritage.
As a bandleader, he directs his trio and quartet, performing standards, original compositions, and Latin jazz while emphasizing interaction, feel, and musical dialogue. He is currently developing new music and performing in New York City.
